In his role as Managing Director, Ed Restivo brings his expansive vision and boundless energy to strategize for the firm’s growth while overseeing the professional development of the entire staff.
Ed’s public accounting career started in 1979 and has included positions with national firms like Christianson & Co. (later acquired by Ernst & Young) and Laventhol & Horwath.
Since founding the firm with Steven Monacelli in 2000, Ed has specialized in the auditing and taxation issues relevant to housing and real estate where he concentrates in sophisticated, high level real estate structures in both the service and manufacturing sectors. He frequently advises clients about how to take advantage of tax credits for low-income housing and historic properties. (Ed is active in the National Association of Home Builders and the Rhode Island Builders Association, as well as the Affordable Housing Association of CPAs.)
When it was time to expand the firm’s corporate offices in downtown Providence, Ed’s guidance was key to creating the new space (with twice the square footage of our previous location) in the city’s former train station. In fact, Ed has pioneered downtown redevelopment since the 1980s, and he remains passionately committed to the historic value of our firm’s home.
His high-energy personality and his personal commitment to clients’ critical issues and financial challenges have been the foundation of Ed’s business relationships, many of which span decades. His clients rely on Ed’s strategic expertise and clear vision, seeking out his advice as they plan expansions or reorganizations, or undertake new business endeavors. In point of fact, Ed is often the driving force behind clients’ mergers, acquisitions, and equity and venture capital deals.
In the same way, Ed freely shares his knowledge and experience regarding management issues, and estate and wealth matters. In national accounting circles, he is a frequent lecturer on partnership taxation and firm management issues.
When he’s not steering the ship at Restivo Monacelli, Ed is active in a variety of charitable and civic organizations; he currently serves as a board member of St. Edward’s Food and Wellness Center. In addition, Ed is an adventure seeker who enjoys skiing, snowboarding, fishing, and golf. He is a resident of South Kingston and North Providence.
